Dr Isla Rippon
Research Fellow

Summary

I am a research fellow within the Department of Health Sciences working on the ESRC funded project ‘Socially inclusive ageing: a lifecourse study of new ageing populations. The project is led by Professor Christina Victor and it investigates social health in older adults from minority groups.

I obtained a PhD in Epidemiology and Public Health at University College London. Using data from the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing (ELSA), my doctoral research examined perceptions of age discrimination among older adults in England and the USA and the relationship between self-perceived age, health and mortality.

After completing my PhD I worked on the ‘Improving the experience of dementia and enhancing active life: The IDEAL study’ (www.idealproject.org.uk). The project aimed to identify what helps people to live well with dementia or when caring for someone with dementia.
